Guest Lecture- ‘Literature : as a tool of dissent

Literature serves as a potent instrument of dissent, challenging societal norms and advocating for change across poetry, prose, and drama. On Saturday, March 24, 2024, Class 12 students at Vidya Vikas Academy were enlightened by Mr Anthony Gomes, Assistant Professor at Goa University, on the theme ‘Literature: A Tool for Dissent.’ The session began with an insightful introduction on the significance of literature and dissent, highlighting their role in historical progress. Mr. Anthony demonstrated how literature stimulates dialogue, nurtures empathy, and emboldens individuals to question the status quo, provoking thought and stirring emotions.

The session compellingly demonstrated how literature acts as a means of protest, showcasing stories and poems that challenge authority and injustice. It emphasized on how words have power to inspire change and promote social justice,  while allowing the students to grasp an idea about  literature as a tool of dissent and the relevance  of literature to our lives .
