Govind Ramnath Kare College of Law was established in the year 1979 when need was felt to enable aspirants from South Goa to pursue legal education without having to travel to Panaji. Initially the institution was affiliated to the Bombay University until the birth of the Goa University, to which it is affiliated today. It is recognized under Secs. 2(f) and 12(b) of the UGC Act, 1956 and it also has recognition of the Bar Council of India for imparting professional legal education. Being recently accredited by NAAC with an impressive B++ Grade (CGPA 2.78 on a 4.0 point scale), makes it the only institution with a CGPA of more than 2.75, that is imparting legal education in the State of Goa.

Kare Law College offers the integrated five year B.A.LL.B., three year LL.B. Degree and the two year LL.M. programmes in addition to the Ph.D degree through its Research Centre. The College also offers a repertoire of certificate courses, notably in Indo-European Comparative Studies with visiting faculty from the University of Lisbon, Portugal and a one-of-its-kind Portuguese language course with legal inputs. It also facilitates the undertaking of several Diploma and certificate courses through the IGNOU Law Study Centre, for which predominantly, faculty of the College are Academic Counselors.

Apart from the state-of-the-art infrastructure, well-equipped library and other facilities in an independent diasabled-friendly multi-storied building with elevator facility, the institution prides itself with best practices and institutional distinctiveness by taking legal assistance to a new level and creating over 21 clinics in majority of the talukas of the State. The students are therefore given live experiences in providing legal aid to the needy through such outreach co-currcicular activities and churned out into society as holistic individuals for which their placement is facilitated by the institution with campus interviews that are being conducted periodically. These noteworthy characteristics, including setting up of a permanent Legal Counseling and Facilitation Centre for Senior citizens has won the institution accolades. The College has collaborated though over 20 MoUs at the National and International level and is committed to knowledge and student exchange. MoUs with prestigious foreign Universities in Portugal and Brazil, particularly with the 13th century UNESCO heritage University of Coimbra in Portugal and commencement of a unique research protocol with Universities and institutions in Cabo Verde, Macau, Mocambique, Brazil, Portugal and other Lusophone countries, gives Kare Law College a global presence.

The Govind Ramnath Kare College of Law, Margao-Goa, in its quest for excellence in the field of legal education is taking giant strides towards this goal and is striving to be the best in the field of legal education in India, for which the commitment of a dynamic team of well-qualified faculty on the staff deserves due credit. Looking back at its glory, the institution boasts of several gold medalists at the University examinations, reputed academicians, well-placed corporate employees, high ranking officials in the bureaucracy, former Advocate Generals of the State several judicial officers, including the only women judges appointed from the State of Goa to the Bombay High Court.
